iPhone 17 Ultimate Battery Test – 17 | Air | Pro | Pro Max

πŸ”‹ iPhone 17 Ultimate Battery Test – 17 | Air | Pro | Pro Max

So we have always heard about Apple accessories, the nice phone pouch/case, AirPods and the almighty power bank. This is because we have heard and experienced that the iPhone battery life is not exactly strong enough. In this video, The Tech Chap is going to see which of the iPhone 17 versions and last year’s iPhone 16 Pro Max can last under the same conditions.

πŸ“ Video Summary

First off, there was a timer in the video and of course some ground rules so all the versions are given a fair chance to start the battery test race. They were:

  • All phones were brand new and were completely charged to 100%.
  • Video was made a day after the release of iOS 26, this was to ensure that last year’s iPhone 16 Pro Max was totally updated to be on the same version as the iPhone 17 versions.
  • All phones were switching between WiFi and Mobile.

Let the games begin…

The creator plays various YouTube videos, watches quite a lot of Instagram reels, plays games, and watches 4K resolution videos all on the same phones.

  • At 30 minutes 51 seconds, guess the phone to hit 99%? The iPhone Air (not surprised).
  • Next up at 32 minutes 10 seconds the iPhone 17 hits 99%.
  • At 59 minutes iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air hit 84%.
  • The iPhone 17 Pro Max and 16 Pro Max are still on 89%.
  • Our friend the iPhone 17 Pro is on 86% (I think we all know who would win right?).

Temperature test:

  • The Air is at 54–57°C, while the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are not emitting extreme heat due to the vapor chamber coolers allowing power to dissipate through the body.
  • Amongst all, the iPhone Air heats up faster under demanding circumstances like playing games.

Sim slot:

  • Locations like Mexico, Japan etc and where you live gets the eSIM version, well then congratulations—you get a longer battery life.
  • Places like the UK, Europe and pretty much the rest of the world where there are physical SIM slots and eSIM versions as well, your battery life is okay there.
  • Apple also said that if what you currently have is the eSIM version only, well the battery life is okay as well.

Back to our battery test:

  • At 1 hour 47 minutes the iPhone Air is at 73%.
  • The 17 Pro Max is at 81%.
  • The 16 Pro Max is at 79%.
  • The 17 Pro is at 77%.
  • Finally the iPhone 17 is at 74%.

Now the danger zone:

  • At 6 hours and 2 minutes, the iPhone Air is at 10%.
  • The 17 is at 15%.
  • The 16 Pro Max is at 20%.
  • Our champion 17 Pro Max is at 23% (not bad).

Eventually after running through so many videos, games and reels, the phones ran out of power which is what the battery test is for. Here’s how it went down:

  • iPhone Air left the group chat at 6 hours 43 minutes.
  • Next to give up is iPhone 17 at 6 hours 54 minutes, basically not too long after the iPhone Air.
  • Our next device to choose the walk away option is last year’s iPhone 16 Pro Max.
  • Our champion, 17 Pro Max finally goes at 7 hours 58 minutes, approximately 8 hours (are you willing to trade your sleeping time for hours of video playback on your phone?).

πŸ’‘ My Thoughts

The iPhone Air is a luxury phone but without substance or sufficiency. Here’s what I mean: yes it has a good display, yes it is an Apple product but no it cannot last you more than 6 hours a day (approximately and if you are using the phone too much). This video also shows that last year’s iPhone 16 is also a good device to purchase compared to several iPhone versions like the iPhone 17.

Concerning the physical SIM and the eSIM, it would be preferable if you have both eSIM option and physical SIM option rather than having either—just to get a couple of hours extra battery time.

πŸ’¬ Final Thoughts

This video is not explicitly stating how long your phone batteries should last, but giving you what you should expect. Remember if you have the eSIM version of the iPhone 17, the Pro and the Pro Max then you have a longer battery life. Also remember in this video, the phones were tested under demanding conditions.

I believe you know the next phone you’d be getting soon. What’s it going to be?
