πΆ️ I tested Meta’s Ray-Ban Display - Video review
The video reviewed the glasses in 3 parts: the glasses, the control and the smartphone/software (made by Meta). The video also clearly shows the content creator, Mrwhosetheboss actively testing the gadget. A very good video to watch in case you want to buy the gadget.
Video Summary
The first part which the glasses:
- It has a 2k resolution camera quality.
- It has speakers and 5 microphones around the arms.
- The glasses automatically tints when outside (partly a sunshade cool)
- The glass case can also be converted to a flat pack so that it can fit in your pocket.
- The inner display is bright, such that even at full brightness your neighbour can’t see what you’re seeing. Privacy at its peak.
- It is very comfortable despite having being loaded with a lot of tech stuff, you wouldn’t even know you have a glass on.
The second part, the control:
- Using the touchpad around the arms, you can take photos and videos.
- The neural band is the controller for the display glasses, you can use hand gestures to control the glasses.
- Fun fact, you can even put your hands in your pocket and control the glasses (please do not use this to cheat in your tests lol)
The third part, the smartphone/software: Nope these glasses cannot replace your phones yet. Well 50% of what the glasses can do in a way relies on your phone.
- With the display it’s pretty easy to read messages (yeah well good luck trying to dodge a message) psych! Same as the phone, you can read messages in full once you’ve clicked on them.
- You can also open links if sent to you.
- You can send a voice note, even if you whisper, these glasses are able to pick up the sounds.
- You can also respond to a message by picking a pre-made response.
- You can also write on your leg, one letter at a time either with your finger or even as if you were holding a pen. So if you are in a meeting or perhaps trying to secretly send your best friend a message while you are doing something else, you can use this “scribbling hack”
- A really cool feature of this glasses is this: If you look/focus on someone, the glasses will use the microphones to know where a sound is coming from, cancel every other noise and focus on what that person is saying, somewhat giving you real-time subtitles. Damn, you can’t be gossiping near me with these glasses on definitely. You can also get real time translation, however this part is still in its baby phase, due to its delay.
- Maps: You can see your movement/direction as you are walking, when you rotate your head, the maps rotate as well. Now it’s a question of Meta maps vs Google maps? There’s also music as well, so you don’t look so lost while you’re navigating. It takes you straight to Spotify, The speaker quality is very good, however it is till in its baby phase because when the volume goes up about 40% the person near you can hear what you are listening to.
- You can also call out to MetaAI, for instance you want to ask show me the recipe to bake lemon cake (yummy snack ikr) it loads right up in your face, as if the cake is baking right in front of you, please do not think that the food is right in front of you remember you are still wearing the glasses. It can also ask follow up questions.
π‘ My Thoughts
Would I get the glasses? Umm No actually mainly because the speakers are still in their baby phase. I wouldn’t want the person sitting next to me to hear what I’m listening to. Though it would be pretty cool to have music playing through your glasses. The glasses itself is a cool gadget. I love two major features: the map feature, real time navigation in terms of vision and the should I call it “focus and listen” feature whereby you narrow your vision to someone and it is able to pick up what the person is saying, cancelling every other surrounding noise. I believe the glasses can be upgraded to include other features and also enhance its existing features.
π¬ Final Thoughts
This video is not just educational but also entertaining, whether you are into tech or not. At some point, we might need a tech gadget like this who knows? It comes in handy in very good situations. The content creator gives are very explicit explanation. In the video you can see him doing the hand gestures as the tests this gadgets just incase you are trying to purchase it, you know how to use it as well.
Over to you my beautiful audience, would you get this item?
